Suicide Statistics show that more then 32,000 people take their own lives every single year? How can that be so? I can’t even get my mind wrapped around that thought much less the number behind it. Imagine 80 people a day have enough hurt and pain inside them to want to take their own life.
That’s twice as many homicides, making suicide the 4th leading cause of death between ages 18- 65. That’s only in America.
I can’t imagine anyone in their right mind wanting to end their own life. That would mean that an individual would be suffering so badly that they just didn’t see any “hope” for whatever problem or situation they are dealing with.
Obviously suicide is much more common then we might think and these people who are going threw this type of pain compare their own lives with like one shooting an injured horse to put it out of its misery. But even though its what we are told is best for the horse when its broken a leg, I still don’t get how putting a bullet threw its head, makes things better? ☹
I believe life is precious and every breath is a gift to us.
Sure we have our ups and downs and sure some times a situation is so horrible that one can’t imagine or quite understand what an individual might be going threw. Maybe it might be better for me to shut up about this subject as I just can’t comprehend it. But I do know that in order to help people with this ordeal or try and get these kind of people help we need to educate people like “me” about what to do when we come across a person with this type of despair. The numbers are to large to ignore meaning that it may very well be someone very close to us might have these types of thoughts and we don’t even know it or realize it until its to late. ☹
I imagine its people with a serious illness that want to end it all to avoid a prolonging and agonizing death.
People who abuse drugs and alcohol.
Perhaps people who have lost someone very close to them and can’t seem to live without the one they love.
Then of course the ones who actually talk about it doing it.
So, what do we do?
Listen without judging them and assure them you care and want to help. Encourage them to express there feelings freely and never minimize what they are feeling. Then check on them daily reassuring them you are there for them.
Those are some of my personal thoughts and just common sense but again I am not an expert on the subject.
Though from what I have read the best thing would be to call a crisis center and speak to their family making sure they are also aware of the situation.
